Travel Back In Time, Where Every Bite Has a Story

Located in the Ville Marie borough in Montreal, Soup Zen Hot Pot is housed in a Victorian structure  built  in 1889. This  building has undergone several changes over its 150-year history  and has played a  significant  role in downtown  Montreal's development.  Originally owned by Charles Phillips, it served as a luxurious  private residence with an intricate Victorian architectural style  and hosted high-society events during  the 18th and 19th centuries.

The building is located at 1230 Bishop Street, close to Bishop Street south of Sainte-Catherine Street West in the Central sector of the city. After World War II, local entrepreneurs purchased the building to restore  its former glory. However, everything changed at 5:20 a.m. on March 24, 2018. A fire broke out in an upper-floor unit in the southern neighborhood above the  Irish  Embassy pub, causing significant  damage and  leaving all three buildings vacant since that day.

Today, the building has been renovated and reappeared six years after the fire. This nearly 150-year-old  building remains a  beloved landmark in Montreal,  making Soup Zen Hot Pot  a living testament to the   downtown development and the  historical  city's ongoing evolution.  It symbolizes resilience and  renewal, having weathered the changes of time and representing  the city' s ability to  honor its past  while embracing the future.

The building retains its original gray stone facade, adorned with intricate carvings and decorative elements typical of  Victorian architecture. Many original features have been preserved, including the grand staircase, hardwood floors, and stained glass windows.

Recent renovations have included the installation of modern amenities such as central heating and updated  plumbing  while maintaining the building  s historical integrity.
